Alain Grootaers

Alain was born on July 22 1964 as the sixth son of a petty officer (big Joe Grootaers) and a cleaning lady (little Gaby Hendrickx, 1 meter 49 and a half, a distant relative of the guitar player). His mother named him Alain because she loved the famous French actor Alain Delon. Any resemblance is based on pure coincidence!
In his youth Alain used to play soccer for the Lierse team as a goal keeper (probably the only goal he ever had in his life).

After he quit soccer for his studies in political science at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, things only went downhill for Alain: like all the people who wished they had learned a real trade, he ended up in journalism... for the male oriented press, writing about naked women, sex and... more naked women.

He became editor in chief and publisher of four different magazines, of which P-magazine and Ché (his babies) still exist today.
But for Alain that’s all history now. He moved on to radio and television, where he participated in successful formats like De Tekstbaronnen, De Raadkamer en De Rechtvaardige Rechters, all for VRT Radio 1 and Radio 2 and Canvas TV. He even hosted a cooking show (1000 Seconden on Vitaya)! Cooking as always been a passion of Alain, ever since his father showed him the culinary skills as a child.
In the mean time Alain wrote a couple of books on different subjects (Doe het voor je dertigste! - De Tekstmaniak - Cyberspeak - Lekker Koken Met Sterren).
In 2007 - 2008 Alain went on a year long sabbatical travel together with his girlfriend, Jakobien, and his daughter Julia, to Asia. On these travels they published a book, Sabbatical, Een Jaar van de Wereld (uitgeverij Vrijdag).

Currently Alain is living in Andalucia with his partner Jakobien and his daughter Julia. In October 2009, he published Z!n, a book
